Blogging Britney
I was watching the Matt Lauer interview with Britney Spears and I kept fighting the urge to talk to the TV. I don't want to be institutionalized for talking to myself, so I decided to write down my impressions here. It's a little peek into my brain for you. Keep in mind that these are spur of the moment thoughts. Welcome to my first live blogging post. Here goes and hold onto your gum!
9:15 pm - I'm watching the Dateline interview of Britney Spears. A couple of initial comments.
I am constantly being distracted by the misplaced glob of mascara over Britney's left eyebrow. Don't these news programs have makeup artists to take care of this kind of thing? Also, the cup of her pink bra is showing above the neck line of her blouse. My God, her hair looks horrible. I don't think these are the impressions she is trying to make.
In the interest of equal time: Matt Lauer isn't wearing socks with his loafers. Very unattractive.
Let's see, Britney was hooked up with Kevin for two months before she found out that he already had a girlfriend pregnant with his kid. What? Did it slip his mind?? And she stayed with him? This is what I am critical at her about. (And yes, Julia Roberts too) Setting aside the issue that he dumped the mother of two of his children for Britney, why would any self-respecting woman stay with a man who would make such a huge lie of omission?
9:19 pm - She looked nice on the Letterman show.
9:22 pm - "[Kevin] is working very hard right now" On what, exactly...?
9:23 pm - Stop with the air quotes! You aren't even using them right!
9:24 pm - On why Britney is attacted to Kevin Federline: "He is so simple." Yah, we got that.
9:26 pm - Matt Lauer: "Britney, you made a reality show exploiting your relationship with Kevin. You talked about your private lives on that show, and now you don't like it that the tabloids keep talking about your private life? Britney, you are a stupid hypocrite and you suck!" (I'm paraphrasing here.)
9:33 pm - Wow, first Julia and now Goldie Hawn. Britney seems to like to point fingers at other celebrities to defend herself. Given what she knows about them, it sounds like she reads the tabloids herself, and not just to find out what the media is saying about her this week.
9:36 pm - Good job Britney, for refusing to talk about Sean (her baby). I mean that honestly, no snarkiness here. Snarkiness is scheduled to turn after the commercial break.
9:44 pm - Lauer is asking her about the various reports that Britney isn't Mommy of the Year. I'm waiting for her to admit that riding in a car with her months old son on her lap was a mistake. "We're country!" Is that supposed to explain it? You were at Starbucks and decided to honor your heritage on the way home?
9:49 pm - Britney is crying because the papparazzi won't leave her alone. I have to admit that I do feel for her, and other celebrities, that are stalked for something as silly as a photo. However, the fact is that she has made mistakes with her child (him on her lap as she is driving, installing his car seat backwards) that can't be blamed on photographers. I just wish she had the sense to admit that she screwed up there.
I don't judge her for stumbling on the street in New York while holding the baby. It isn't as if she dropped him. I still don't get why that was blown up into a big deal.
9:50 pm - Don't wipe your cheeks! Wipe off the mascara glob! Its staring at me! Make it STOP!

9:57 pm - AH! Now we know why she did the interview... to promote her baby clothing line.
9:59 pm - Well, thank you Matt for asking my opinion on whether the paparazzi have gone to far in pursuing Britney Spears. I do think the paparazzi have gone to far. It is unacceptable that photographers are allowed to behave the way they do with celebrities. If they did the same thing to an unknown person, they could be charged with stalking, harassment and assault. Something is out of whack there.
I do appreciate Britney's attempts to "set the record straight," but I think she has made some mistakes in her life that she needs to own up to. Not necessarily with me or anyone else in America, but I hope in her heart she can admit that she has screwed up here and there.
Update: When I went to publish this post, Blogger informed me that this is post #200! Woot!

She's scary.
She needs some serious assistance with her PR strategy. As far as some action items that she should consider: quit having babies, quit talking to reporters (especially while chewing gum for Jeebus' sake), and quit making public appearances if she's going to be scary looking. Oh, and maybe try to base her celebrity on making an album or something at some point instead of being a complete kookball. Basically, if she proceeds to do the opposite of everything she's done in the last 3 years, she'll probably have a long and successful career.
Britney should have been paying more attention in her Celebrity Economics classes.
Your chosen Brittney photo makes me feel good about myself. I look better than Brittney Spears today!!!
